Impeller help

Was supposed to be lifting my boat in tonight, filled my drum to make sure my engine was running ok and low and behold i realize that i have no water being pumped out. I assume its the impeller and have began the hunt to find one, found 1 guy on ebay that stocks loads of different sorts, have emailed him to see if he has something i can use.
Anyone have any better ideas of maybe another cause for no water being pumped, not too sure when it comes to outboards really.

check where water is sucked into make sure it aint crapped up

yeah checked all inlets and outlets and there is no obstructions.

Poke a length of 50lb line down the pee-hole to check there are no blockages.

If any water at all is coming out, try put your thumb over the hole to seal it and let a little pressure build before releasing the pressure to jet out the obstruction.

yep was the first thing i did, there is no water at all coming out, and no obstructions at all. Im pretty sure its the impeller, but would just like a second opinion, ive managed to locate an impeller at 17 quid including delivery, which seems a more than decent price.
Also im on the lookout for somebody that may be interested in doing the job of replacing the impeller, paid of course.

If everything was OK last time used, take off the rubber pipe for the water and give a poke about with some wire in the hole in the engine block and check the hose completly before you buy replacement parts.

I’ve changed one on an inboard and apart from poor access it was a straight forward job.... There must be an outline of how to do it for an outboard somewhere on the web. Top tip if you do replace the impellor is to strap the vanes down with a couple of cable ties and lube them up with a splash of fairy liquid or glycerol (cake makers use it). This helps the impellor slip into place more easily; cut off the ties as they meet the housing on the way in to the impellor body.

I've changed loads of impelas, it's odd to have no water coming out. That normally indicates a obstruction.

Often there is a plate on the side of the engine case that covers water jackets.

The water jackets sometimes beome caked with salt and sand. The water wont pump past it.

Problem if you remove the cover plate then you must replace the gasket.

Remove the gear box check old impella - look for fins missing and make sure it is rotating - on the drive shaft.

Replace the impella if more that a year or two old.

If your still getting no water then its a blockage normally on the water jackets or the thermostat chamber.
These are straight forward jobs, but corrosion is the ememy,bolts stuck. Heat and wd40 are the only solutions.

Thanks for all the advice lads, my new impeller should arrive today. Im planning a thorough service on the engine and hopefully everything will work out well.

All done, turned out it was the impelled, there was a collection of sand in the impelled housing and 3 fins on the impeller were shot to bits and chunks took out of others. New one fitted and pumping lots of water. Also had the gearbox oil done and a few other bits and nobs adjusted so I'm ready to go back in, weather watch begins again.

welldone on getting it sorted,was it much of a job getting the old bolts out then?

Heat was applied to help with the gearbox bolts
