Had a week and half holiday down there with family. based in Porthmadog, lovely place.

Anyway, got myself booked on a boat for a days "reef / tope trip". out of pwhelli

I loaned all the kit but got myself some local bait.

managed to get about 15 dogfish and four huss, biggest about 8lb.

The regulars on the boat turned their noses up at the dogfish that were coming aboard, but as I'd never caught one before I thought it was a great day.

Only two tope caught all day, nice fish they are, but for a first timer the dogs and huss were graet fun.

Sorry only couple of pics of tope!

Weather was brilliant, and the sea was as flat and calm as I'd ever seen it.

nice report gary . As im originally from liverpool ive fished that area quite a lot and can understand the locals as some days around there doggies can be as anoying as mackeral when trying to get through for bigger and better fish. Always nice to catch something new tho. I was out at the yellow can and got a small haddock. The lads couldnt understand why i was so pleased so that was something Id never caught lol
Nothing makes a fish bigger than ALMOST being caught

A fish is a fish, if it puts a smile on your face, doen't matter what species it is.
            God result and report.

tell her you are taking her on a great long weekend over the west coast of Scotland, and book yourself out on one of Ian Burretts boats, sure they will find you a tope or two, and take the missus with you.

Never caught dogfish myself, must venture over to the west coast sometime and give them a go... Just have to wait until the nice people at the DVLA let me back on the road of course :/

Nice looking fish they are too. The huss also look like they mean business.

Not sure if we get them, or similar on our coast?

The water was well clear, we could see the bottom near the reef, shoals of sand eels etc

No mackerel around at the time, we did try like.

They expect it to kick off big time in next few weeks, I was just a bit early going there this year!
