  • Roayal Quays.

Me and the missus had a ride through to the Royal Quays today, to have a look around the retail park, she's been going on about visiting there for a while now.
I decided to have a look at the marina while there, and was amazed at the amount of room you lads have for backing out of the moorings. I could'nt see any of the boats you have there i.e Slinky Kate, Stingray etc, but it is pretty big compared to Sunderland Marina. Nice place though and very secure. I noticed a boat which was beside me at Sunderland its called Beautifull Dawn.
A bit of advice though, if you go to the retail park, dont get the haddock and chips from the cafe there, they were terrible

browny points chris ...... yeah good way to go. Since we usually attack the fishing on a Saturday I generally have an hour or two down the marina on a Sunday just sorting out the wasted gear etc, meanwhile the wife has an hour or two around Royal Quays outlet .... works a treat

I was down there today (saturday since the seas like a melting pot) about 2.00 to 3.00 ish ..... good just to chill out and mess with a few hooks and bits in the sunshine (with a stella for comfort) ..... duncans post about fishing tomorrows got me thinking though

norman dont take this the wrong way warlord is 40ft and just shy of 20 tons, and will sink as good as any other vessel i know but it might just be a wee bit nasty in a smaller boat

Norman , what do you reckon to Chris saying the Royal Quays has more space for backing out of your berth ? Amble seems very tight (to me at least and you have experienced both) and I had a look on google earth to compare the two , it does look like RQ has more space. It's not such a problem now that I've had a bit of practice coming in and out , but at first I thought I'd made a BIG mistake getting a bigger boat and fishing single handed. I've ordered a slave , I mean crew to aid with the berthing procedures and such and maybe I can teach him to use a camera , though that might be a bit of the blind leading the blind
Anyhoos , soon as this wind changes direction , me and my new crew will be having a run out so we'll see how much difference it makes going mob handed

I had a walk along the pier today and i would not wish it on anyone being out in that today, rough going very rough with waves crashing over and up Marsden...i spent the rest of the day making leads and burning the hairs off my arms..i try and load a pic my mate took inbetween phsl..it was a close shave..i.e the valve cracked on a 50ltr gas bottle and sent a fire ball into the lead, it melted within 2secs but also sent a fire ball 3ft into the air lol....safety was first and it still went tits up..everything fine thou and made loads of new 6oz pirks that i cant wait to try.

I must have just missed you Norman, i left at 1.30 and headed for IKEA, more brownie points. It's a bit like collecting air miles this points thing.
In Sunderland once my bow is level with the pontoon finger, i have one boats length before the stern hits the yacht behind, at the Royal Quays it looks like 3 boat lengths wide...pretty good i think.
i've just got back from Seaham, so i'll put some pics on the previous post.
