  • Anti Foul

Well after my first season as a boat owner using a trailer and launching in various places I have decided to go for a berth in Amble marina.

So, the question is does anybody recommend a certain type of anti foul that they would use ( my boat is a seahog alaska 500 if that helps?) and how much should i expect to pay? also how much do people think i will need?

    Any feedback appreciated

    Cheers

    hi Dave,

I use this Blakes Cruising Performer Antifouling Paint £49.50 - PAINT - Antifouling Yacht Chandlery & Rigging Services

I've used the same every session (about once every 2 years) and put straight on top of what ever is left (after a basic cleanup for weed and flakey bits)

2.5 litres gives me 2 coats on a 21ft boat with about 10-15% left in the can.

If its a first coat then you'd probably be better with a primer first.

    hope this helps

Hello dave , I'm in Amble marina , for the last couple of years I've had a boat similar to yours in there and never antifouled it at all , I live 15 minutes away and brought the boat home and gave it a wash and polish every 6-8 weeks through the summer , if you live close enough or know somewhere you can wash it down local it's better than antifouling a trailer boat.
If it's never been antifouled before I'd think about this option before spending time and money on antifouling .

cheers for the advice lads. My boat already has a coat of anti foul on it as I bought it from a lad who had it in the royal quays. So i think i'll just lash a coat straight on it.

I may still take it out now and again to give it a wash down also.

        Cheers

Wicked Jack mate, its on the boat yard at the marina now, just waiting on a service, some anti foul then into the water ready for the season - can't wait to be rid of the hassle of the trailer!

have you a boat up there? whats it called?

i have the good fortune to crew on the warlord charter boat, which means that to some degree i have the benefit of a boat without the worry and costthe only downside is that theres an apprentice crewman who is virtually useless, indeed i doubt if he will ever be able to carry out his duties unsupervised the expression "cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear" comes to mind hope to see you on the high seas
