I bet the residents in Seaham and surrounding area are over the moon with the marina. If i lived local i would defo have a fishing boat in there.

Looks good Deano , and nice pics , last time i was down, the gang plank was laid up on the top, and the marina was empty. That was a couple of weeks ago.

Those pics are from a few weeks ago by the looks of it, the gang plank is still out of the water and the dock is dry.
They are waiting on the arrival of the gate, it requires a police escort during transport.
Its completion was estimated to be mid may, but by the looks of it that may be a little optimistic.

still puzzles me why they didn't put the lock gates on the next piers out.

given the big big swell that can run in there, wouldn't want to be locked out waiting for the tide. accidents waiting to happen I reckon

Very true mark, i have asked this question on a number of occasions, but never seem to get strong answer about it.
Dont get me wrong, for me Seaham marina is a godsend, But some of the drawbacks are huge with the one you mention being the most problematic.
I had often thought about having a gate near the whit pole, but as with anything it all comes down to money.

Also wondered wether they would refuse to open the gate if there was a bi swell running as it used to hammer right into the inner dock. would put a fair old bounce on the nice new pontoons.

definitely not a place to be in a small boat if it gets snotty
