  • Cart bait ??

    Hello lads,
A few bit of advise here please.
I have bought some cart a while ago some in sausage form and some in squares, BUT I have been told that using this as bait is illegal.
I can not find the relevant info on the net to say is or not ?
Edible eating crabs seems to go into the actual size of the crab and no mention of a mixture using it for bait. Unless I have mis read or missed it all together.
Also I was told I need to use it frozen although its in sausage skin type stuff and wrapped in cling film.
I reckon I will never keep this frozen to use as a 1l bait flask holds next to nothing.
I defrosted a sausage type one and it ended up like a miss -shaped ball object.
Any help on using this stuff as I have not done it before.
I know it will need bait elastic but do you leave it in the cling film and just puncture it or use it un wrapped..
Oh and the best question ? is it legal to use it in north sea off the boats ?

Whats the crack about illegal north of the tyne mate ?
Is there a map in circulation that shows where and where not to use it ?
      And ???
Keep it in the cling film and whip it on OR remove the clingfilm or just stab it to let the pong and juice leak out ?
      Sorry I do not know.

Legality off a boat I am unsure of but from the shore, north of the Tyne it's illegal, south of the Tyne the authorities have said they will not prosecute anglers for it.
As above keep it in a flask. Personally use it with cling film, punctured, use with blacks. Fishes best over hard ground with coloured water. Does catch fish on clean ground also but have had less success. Is a good backup to peeler crab.

            Edible Crab Bait.

At present it is illegal to use Edible Crab (Cancer pagurus) in the Northumberland IFCA District. This is in accordance with Byelaw 9.

The district spans from the centre of the River Tyne to the English/Scottish Border - from the tidal limits of the estuaries, out to 6 Nautical Miles.

The Byelaw is currently out for consultation and is in the hands of DEFRA. As such we cannot currently offer an estimate of when the process will be complete.

If you require any more information please contact the office and ask to speak to a Fishery Officer.
