Increase in north sea cod

As the tital says a report saying north sea cod have increased and will soon be back on our shelves after a 12 years of reduced numbers being landed.

I think this season everyone can agree the 2-5lb cod have dominated the reports with 15-20+ per man becoming a normal day but what about the ling? i for one have had less ling this year than any other year since i started taken records.

Today we had near perfect fishing conditions and as expected filled the box with cod but for the 2nd trip in a row we had more pollack than ling and fishing for ling too, loads dont like ling and i hate it if they wont go back but i love a few hours ling fishing to have a break from pirks or shads.

plus the cod are so plenty that the ling doesnt get a chance.

are the mackies still around in numbers?

Mackies are just silly at the moment, its like hitting a wall on the way down, twice today i ahd 2 mackerel on a single pirk hook and even caught one on a split link after getting snagged on the wreck.

No the bigger ling seem to show late season but really ling should be on the wreck in ok numbers from May onwards.

As i say we had 5 today and given them a good 2hr bash to rest the pirking arms. On a different note, never had a cod on bait today.
