Set out of the lock at around 8am this morning. The sun was shining and the wind wasn’t blowing so I had high hopes, but i’ve been here before, so kept it to myself. I decided to try the wrecks, things were only slow. I tried all kinds of lures but nothing could tempt them. My brother in law pulled up a cod of about 4lb. I decided to try only squid and managed a few cod. I then tried a Norwegian pirk and had a couple more, the I lost the pirk so decide to put on one of my own, but with a difference. I put it on with a fladen Mackie spinner on the bottom of it and even kept on the little treble hook and no other. I hardly touched the bottom when wham! Hit by a 5lb Pollack. Got that in and dropped in again, wham !
A 12lb cod. I was getting fish constantly, many too small. But that little spinner made the day. At the end we ended up with 12 cod to 12lb and a ling of 10lb and a 5lb Pollack.
