I managed to get out on the kayak off Seaham on Friday night for a few hours. For the first hour I only had 1 small cod. After that I had a couple of mackerel but nothing to speak of. Then I stumbled across a shoal of mackerel that seemed to be from the top all the way down to the bottom of the water. They were smashing into the sprats all around me. It was something I've never seen before and with the water so clear you could see the sprats swimming under the kayak. It was amazing. I caught as many as I wanted and with it getting late I headed back for one hell of a paddle back! It was getting into dark and I've never seen as many fish show on the fish finder. On the way back in I dropped down in a couple of places and had coallies. The whole paddle back the fish finder was showing fish. It was a great night and one I hope to experience again soon.
Question. Is there more fish come relatively close in on a night than during the day? Forgetting about the Mackerel, there seemed to be smaller fish showing everywhere and when I dropped down I caught something. I've never seen anything like it on the fish finder
