  • North Norway Report July 2010

Just back from Northern Norway (31/7/10), Had a cracking week, staying at a place called buvik an hours drive from tromso on the malangen fjord.

    our digs

    Balcony view

    our boat.

First couple of days were spent in the fjord, with no boating experience between us, and only kayak navagation skills, we were expecting an eventfull week. We soon got to to grips with the boat and electronics, and caught haddock to 7lb, cod to 10 lb and coalie to 4lb.

After studying the charts we relised the better fishing would be on the reefs and peaks out on the open sea, so after a 45 min steam and loads of fuel burnt we were soon into better fish.

For the next couple of days the fishing was excellent with loads of doubles being caught, but none managing to reach 20lb.
On the last couple of days we found a new area of ground, with better fish on it. We felt had we discovered this area earlier, we would have had more bigger fish, still we cant complain!

Best fish was a cod of 31lb with a few low 20s. On the last day we found some nice pollack, and took fish of 17lb and 12lb, unfortunatley no pics as batterise died
All in all a cracking week, no huge cod or halibut, with 24hr daylight u could pretty much fish all day and night, but we preferred a good drink on the nights Not long till we start looking for somewhere for next years trip.
    Couple more scenery pics.

    1.00am!

    Take plenty of fuel

    Dont drink and drive

Some fantastic fish, what a way to spend a holiday. Better than cooking on a hot packed beach

What a fantastic post, great pics. Weather looks great, then wet and cold, but hell, who cares when there's fish like that to catch, especially those jumbo hadock. how far up the side of Norway were you!
