Hello just after some advice , is it pure personal preference to what lead size you use or is there anything else to it? I mainly fish the hard ground and use 10oz leads but my mate reckons close in i should use 8oz then as i get further out up it to 10 then 12oz but didn't say why

Drift speed and line diameter a factor also
Inshore you could potentially drop to a skinny braid and fish 6oz leadsOoh a new vid!

If fishing a chartered boat half full – full, I think anything less than 10oz is no good so as to avoid tangles…well, as best they can be avoided.
I usually stick with a 10oz, sometimes 12oz if conditions suit but I fish with a 20lb rod so its hard work even with a 10oz but makes it all the more fun which is what its all about.Best shore catch 2016 - 7.5lb cod, Seaton Carew!

I only fished with 10 oz with 50lb braid and 12-20lb rod and that set up covered everywhere I fished on blue eye 2. Don't go lighter on a charter boat as you will cause tangles with everyone........ People who used mono and not braid were in my experience usually the ones at the cause of the knot because of their thicker line and 6-8oz bombs getting pulled through with the tide !!!!!!! 😨
