Hi Guys,
Was wondering what you guys thought about tomorrow?
I thiught it was a goer, but on checking what slight and moderate actually mean, I think it might be a bit much for my little boat.
Do you think the BBC sea state will be accurate, and is moderate to slight too much?

Moderate sounds ok dosn't it? It means swells of up to 3mtrs (10ft) I'm only ever confident in going out in "smooth" seas in my 165 , that's swells up to 1mtr , slight is up to 2mtrs , but all these figures are academic because you can go out in a slight sea when there is no wind and ride swells all day like you are on a perpetual shuggy boat which would make me feel sick but not in any danger whereas on the other hand you can go out in a smooth to slight sea with a bit of wind blowing wind over tide and the swells in a different direction again and the boat can be all over the place , dosn't make me feel sick , but the "other" cheeks can start to clench a bit.
I look at 3 or 4 different weather pages on the internet and make my mind up from them , I take more notice of the wind speed and direction than the sea state , if it's blowing more than 10mph westerly I'm concerned , if it's blowing 10 mph easterly I don't even bother.
Of course all the weather websites in the world can't beat a look at the sea in person on the day , sometimes it is flat as can be when it's been forcast slight or moderate , other times it's the other way round .
Even when the sea looks spot on , I still check the weather sites and if they say it might get rough later , I don't go very far.
Without actually going down to the sea and looking , tomorrow looks like a no go by the weather sites , westerlies turning north and too strong for my liking in the morning , easing a bit in the afternoon ...... think I might go trout fishing

So what about Sunday morning, first thing? 5MPH Westerly on Sat night then 10MPH WSW on Sunday morning. We're hoping to get out to catch high tide & sunrise @ ~4:30am, but its a long journey if the sea turns out crap... again!

Anyone else planning on going out Sunday?

Arrived at Cullercoats to launch at 7am Saturday, could sea white caps about 3/4mls out. Decided to launch anyway just to give the engine a run. Within 1/2 a mile i was into a lumpy sea and swell comming from the north and very uncomfortable. Turned and headed back in. I find no pleasure fishing in those conditions, and save my bait for a flatter day

Meant to thank you sooner for your advice guys.
After reading it decided to give up on the idea and was pleased I did when I saw the sea whilst on Seaham carboot.
