  • Marine Conservation Zones.

This season has started better than any I can remember and there have been many many catch reports of over 100 Cod landed with the photos to prove it.
I'm certainly enjoying the sport but I have some concerns that our "exuberant" catch reports may attract some unwanted attention from DEFRA in terms of their latest consideration for extending the Marine Conservation Zones around the UK. I'm worried that their proposed Coquet to St Mary's exclusion zone could be fast tracked if they start making a case that we are exploiting an emerging feeding ground.
A couple of years ago we had a lousy season and this season could simply be a one off but during such uncertain times I would be happier if we played down our successes by not specifying how many fish we are landing.

St Mary's to Coquet is not an exclusion zone, they have all been knocked on the head, it is simply a MCZ
