ok you lot, you know i go rock/pier/shore fishing but........ a good friend has bought a boat, he knows his stuff he used to take angling parties out of whitby for a living on \'arctic skua\' many moons ago but has been out of fishing for a while.
we are intending doing a bit of big stuff fishing, ie porbeagles etc.
I already have a small boat rod, 30/40lb class and a reel for the smaller stuff ie 20lb cod pollack etc,
but what reel do i need for the porbeages? i want a lever drag i do know that !
    any advice gratefully received.

well we are hoping to try and up the record for the porbeagle, it currently stands at 507lbs and was caught here, if a reel can handle that (and specimen skate, hhalibut etc) without costing me a whole months wages then i will be happy.

You could always borrow rod, reel, butt pad, harness, tags etc from that handsome big angler you were talking to on the pier last Saturday night, failing that you can borrow mine

That way you can try before you buy. Give me a shout on 895810.
