  • Boat Fishing Braid Or Line???

I am hoping to get out on the boat a few times this year and wondered what would be the best to use braid or a line on my multiplier?. Just thought i would put it in this section so yous boat lads could help me please.
    Thanks in advance

Braid, once you try it you won't go back.

would depend on what and where i was going about 80% of my fishing is done with braid but i still have reels with mono on them for certain applications

It's got to be braid! I don't have a boat reel with mono on anymore with exception of the backing. No mono leaders either just a rod with a forgiving dampening action.

Think we're all in agreement, the feel you get from braid is far superior to that of mono, you can feel every knock from the bottom and the bites.

I would say braid is my first choice, but be careful when you get a fast hold, do not wrap it around your hand to break it free as it will cut deep. Use a piece of broom shank instead. Once hooked into a good fish, don't try to bully it up as its easy to rip the hook out as there is very little stretch.

I think the only time mono is used on a boat nowadays (for main line) is for uptiding. I like the level wind reels for it though, it stops a groove wearing in your thumb.

Defo braid in fact last time out I had to use spare reel and couldn't stand the mono so transfered the braid over! Mono is like using elastic lol

I normally go for around 50lb braid.
When I changed over from mono the first thing I noticed was the great feel you get of the bottom and fish on.
Second thing I noticed as canman said was the way it can cut into your hands alot more than mono if you get stuck fast. Defo recomend gloves or a wrap around some wood to free yourself, or in my case SNAP OFF lol.

Just used braid for the first time today out on Mistress. You feel everything transmitted to your rod as if the line is only a few feet long. I managed today with 6oz weight and held bottom as well as anyone else and the feel is just so direct with no stretchy vague feel.

the rod and line comercial bass boys only use mono they went onto braid but reverted back when there catch rates went down

                              dont always dismiss mono
