  • Sunderland Boat comp

    Was thinking of arranging a boat competition from sunderland for one day this summer.
    Was thinking end of June/beginning july, and if it were to be a success the possibility of a second one towards the mid/end of august.

    Had a few ideas of what style of competition to have:

    Straight heaviest Single fish {Easiest}

    Species Competition

    Rather than just the bog standard competition and all boats steaming to the wrecks, some kind of points system could set up for various species and its the anglers job to try work out how he is going to win this comp by targeting certain species.
    This is just a thought and it might not actually be workable, but its something different.

    One thing i dont have is a decent set of scales to do a weigh in or experience of actually hosting a weigh in, someone with the above scales or experience wanting to lend a hand would be great.

    Any interest or ideas welcomed.

    I don't own a boat so my thought might be poo but based on the other comps people have done you will get the usual questions / comments about how far out you can go and whether there is a limit, should charters be allowed to enter (no idea if charters go from sunderland), should arm powered boats be allowed in or just engine, boundries if any.. just some food for thought

      I'd be up for it, might be worth making a list of people attending & add it to your 1st post.

      I would make the rules simple, any floating vessel as there is a lot of members with Kayaks & a few with rowing boats etc, no boundaries as long as you are back for weigh in, cant help with scales but sure someone on here can help.

      Me & "Wearuk53" will deffo participate.

        I would take part, not bothered about the rules, It's just a bit of fun at the end of the day. But we should chip in and have a cash prize.

                There is a similar discussion in this thread;
                Boat comp ideas - World Sea Fishing Forums

                Some things I would do are;
                Make it a charity event in support of a worthy cause. A %age of the prize money goes to a good home regardless of who wins.
                Make it simple. Heaviest fish wins, second heaviest is 2nd etc.

                Some things I wouldn't do are;
                Have any kind of points system. This would mean fish are killed and discarded just to be verified at the weigh in. The bunny huggers will love this.

                Dont have any rule that can not be enforced. A limit on how far boats can go out is not policeable, so dont have it.

                    Nothing decided or finalised just as yet, was just seeing if there was any interest.
                    I have come across a bit of a hitch my end, My wife has decided to end her maternity leave early and returns to work on July 1st full time so i have to watch the little one 5-6 days a week, which would severely hinder my opportunities to get out fishing.
