  • New Boat

Sold my little 12 foot plodder last week, so i have went out and bought a 15 foot sports dory for the upcoming season.
I will be mooring it down at Sunderland for the forthcoming year, with the view to moving it to Seaham when the new marina is completed.

I only have a couple of mates who are actually into fishing so i may be looking for someone who would like some days out on the boat during the nice weather.

Good luck with the new boat, from the sounds of it this year there will be a nation of baots at sea lol.

I know what you mean about crew, when i got mine i had a few trips at sea on my own and it just never felt safe and a few with family but they got sick quick, when buying a boat the thought of crew never crossed my mind..luckly got family more into it now and a couple of regulars/mates that like a trip often.

All the best and lets see that 20lb cod

      Hi Falcone,

I would definitely be up for helping you out and I'm also keen to learn the ropes, so to speak. I also live less than a mile from the marina. So that would be a win win situation for both of us.

Gimme a pm if your interested

      Cheers

      Paul

      Edited: too much info...lol

          Hi Falcone,
went and had a look at Seaham Marina site last weekend, looks a good location and is coming on well, not for many boats if I remember correctly, but well placed with lots of shops pubs etc close enough but not too close. Seems it'll be a while yet before its completed probably next season at best .......

couple of pics of the basin and the main building as of Saturday 17th April 2010:-

Then of course as you say there is always Sunderland Marina .... with no lock gates to worry about .......
Read the notice by the entry gate .... seems loads of fishing competition action every few weeks by the looks of it, interesting .... :-

good luck with the new boat mate, look forward to the catch reports ....

I was talking to norman conn the other day and they are hoping the marina will be completed by the end of august, i have had a boat in down in sunderland marina before and its good, but because of my locality to Seaham i would moor it there.

Thanks for the offers from the two guys above, once i have everything in the water and sorted i might be in touch.

Tell you what, some fantastic marks off Seaham and i am strongly thinking of getting more info with the aim of moving the boat down there if its safe, ok priced and not tidal etc.

If it runs April to April like RQ would be nice to ahve 1 year in the Tyne and then 1 year in Seaham..spaces willing of course.

I always try to never fish a wreck 2 weekends in a row and always do other ones..onyl go back to them that fished if the day has been hard and need a couple for the table...a new area to fish would be great as i know its not that far but still a good distance down the coast.

seaham will still be tidal I suspect. they are only locking the old inner harbour, so at a guess 1-2 hours off the bottom of the tide would be need unless they are going to dredge a channel in as well

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

Good luck with the new boat. If you don’t like heading out alone you could arrange to buddy up with another more experienced boat for a few trips. I understand the concern of going it alone but it also offers great freedom without anyone else to look after.

Good advice, allthough im not a rookie where boats are concerned.

i worked on a trawler for 7 years, and had my own boat back in 2004 in sunderland marina.

Im looking for someone to come out so im not talking to myself all day which is what i generally do when i go shore fishing.

I said hello to you tonight. You were putting your boat on the mooring.

I was talking to your mate who towed your boat from Dumfries or was it Stranraer

Looks a nice quick boat that. I am Alan, on the Coquet Lady. Say hello some time.
