I am looking to convert a spare laptop I have into a GPS navigation but having trouble looking for UK waters electronic charts.
I have been on the NOAA site (Nautical Charts & Pubs) and downloaded the free Raster (for memorymap) and the ENC vector (for Polarview) charts but these all seem to be the US.
Does anyone know if there is a UK equiv chart data?

    Thanks in advance

I had a great system on my boat years ago. Then I found that laptops suck in air to cool themselves and the fan soon packed up. It didnt like the slamming of my dory either and the h/d got dusted as well.

It's a HP dual core, 2GB with 160GB HD. I've got a spare docking station for it as well so it will only by installed on the boat when I am fishing.

Thanks for the tip. I might then create a winPE install on a memory stick so that way its solid state and wont batter the disk spindles.

                loads of options there...

there's some great plotters apps that run under linux, and are free. stick ubuntu on a memory stick and away you go. infinitely more stable than windows PE

there's plenty pc's and laptops out there on boats with normal hard drives and they all fair well, and are probably in use much more than your's ever would be, the ones in the commercial fishing boats get some real abuse too and seem to cope

depends what avenue you wanna go down. Maptech UK & Ireland chart folio and software is £85 - raster charts

plenty of copies of maxsea flaoting around the web....
