Yes , I went out today , I couldn't bring myself to put in a report though , what with Norman and Co stuck indoors at Royal Quays it would be really bad form to come on here and wax lyrical about the amazing flat calm seas , sunshine and fishing that were to be had today , I mean , it must be aweful for them being locked up in there whilst we lucky beggars are out at sea with only the wake of a passing boat to remind us that we are actually on water , and what with the glorious non stop sunshine and the knock knocking of the rod tip as yet another codling takes a liking to the ragworm tipped hokkai.
It was quite refreshing when that almost 2mph breeze got up at around lunchtime , it very nearly managed to put a ripple on the surface of the water. Loads of boats out today too , never seen so many , the marina was virtually empty when I called back at lunchtime to unload the mornings catch and pick up extra bait and more fish boxes.
No , it just wouldn't be right

Well we took my boat out friday Lady Christine but we drew a blank as i am new to boat fishing have to say this was a great day flat seas nice and warm but no fish. Went as far as the Whitburn yellow buoy anyone know how far out that is as i have no GPS yet dont think its too far?? We were using daylights baited with mackeral but no bites either think we need to try some proper bait any ideas??Marriage is like deep-sea fishing. You never know what you've got until you get it in

First fish I caught today took the one lure on the rig that had no bait on it so don't put too much faith in special baits , Ragworm , lugworm or squid is as good as anything just now , apparently crab is unbeatable in a few weeks time and then when the mackie come, mackerel strips are the way to go.
It's more about being where the fish are , a gps will help , it shows hard ground areas and depth contours , wrecks and all the things fish like(gets you home if the fog comes in too ). Until you get one , go where the other boats are fishing or where you know other boats do catch fish.

Cheers Ray I have got a Garmen Fishfinder always shows fish more so when your moving then less when your drifting, to be honest not seen many boats out yet but will take onboard your advise.

Sorry Norman lol ,
Wearuk........... Don't use your fishfinder for looking for fish , use it to find drop offs and humps and hollows or structures on the sea floor , these are the sort of places fish like to be, they do show fish , but most of the time the fish you see on the screen are something else , don't be put off from fishing somewhere because the fishfinder isn't showing any fish either , very rarely does the finder show fish when we catch them.

And make sure you have the auto detect fish turned "off" (thats the part that displays pictures of fish on the screen when it thinks it`s found them).....
As Ray says use the sounder to detect holes, weed, rocks, wrecks and depths not the actual fish themselves ..... it dont work that way (other than detecting a shoal of mackerel when the times right)

We’ll just have to keep fishing by proxy until the lock gates are fixed. Keep the reports coming in.
