It's still a tad early!!

I fired up "Grace" on Tuesday morning and took her for a run to St Mary's on the off chance that there would be some fresh run fish. It was a little breezy so I put on a flowing trace and did a couple of drifts both inside and outside the yellow can. Nothing showing on the fish finder but maybe the pair of resident seals had something to do with it.
I tried a drift on a small wreck to the south east of the can and picked up a decent codling although the pot dhans over the spot made it very difficult. I headed home after a couple more "gear losing" drifts and conclude that it's still a tad early.

Nice just to be out thou aint it...i was out Sunday, never took a rod but was nice to be at sea.

Until MId- April to May i consider it only worth going out if bored and its a nice day.

my god rich that last reply almost ended on an optomistic note LOL Not long really now though is it - less than 2 months until potential of stripeys (wonder if the sea temp will warm up to usual may temps by may or be put behind by the winter).

when is the boat coming out.

No point in being optomistic, it just leaves you open up to be disapointed but if your not expecting much then it feels better..logic is sound

Out the water 6th of April, back in 11th then lock gates out of action following weekend so season start 24th of April for me...all the tackle sorted just need it taken down.

Looking forward to wetting aline as only wet a line twice since Oct, wont be long for 5 months of fishing...every year i say this but want to try new things and types of fishing.

Tried redgilling close in for pollack but had cod and mackerel only.

If the weather allows it I am hoping to get out again before the lock gate repairs. The provisional dates for the essential maintenance could have been better for both the motor and sailing guy's. I'm sure there's a very good reason for the work being undertaken during "prime time" but it is still gonna be hard to take if during that period we are kicking our heels on dry land while looking at a flat sea and light westerly.
I had considered mooring outside for the repair duration but it's gonna be crowded with the commercial guy's and transient trawlers. Not to mention the possibility of a night time visit from the low life, neck end, scroats who will see it as an opportunity for easy pickings.

I think the neck end scroats have done all their damage south banks of the Tyne under cover of darkeness hopefully with the light nites coming in they have returned to their holes in the ground just make sure your tenders (where appicable) are locked up dont give the B**t**d* any opportunity

Lol yer i thought it was a canny year for boat fishing, alot of flat days at sea for me last year and no long spells of bad seas.

Fishing was great as well, broke loads of pb records...if this year is just 80% as fun as last year i will even smile for a pic ...nar maybe not.

I am going out Monday at sea, may even wet a line if the sea flat and weather nice.
