  • My luck was in :)

Well today i set off on the search for lead, first stopped at a local scrap yard and was told with out a cert they would not sell me any so off to the next one. Got there and they said yer no problem at all how much did i want?

I said about 8 stone and could it be clean as it was for fishing, "fishing?" he said your lucks in mate a lad has just been in and dumped 3 bags of boat leads.

I even smiled when i opened the bag, 122 10oz leads all new, 57 8oz leads and 24 1lb leads along with a bag of off cuts and failed moulds.

    I will take it

Cost me £75 for just over 12 stone of lead so not cheap but to be honest i now dont need to make any new leads until at least my 5th trip

I think its about 90p per 10oz lead so with the 10oz alone i have saved a load on fuel and price from the shop.

        Nice one Richy!

We had a load of 10oz sinkers nicked when the cabin was done over. I knew they'd turn up sooner or later.

I see you've mastered posting pics as well.
        Cheers, Keith.

I ‘phoned a few scrappies last week to find one selling lead. One of them said I was in luck as they had just had a load of fishing weights dropped off, so I can guess which one you visited. Unfortunately, I went to the one a little closer to home, selling shiny off-cuts. A longer journey could have saved a lot of work by the looks of it and for the same price.
Yours work out at £1 / kg or about 3p per ounce, bargain compared to shop bought leads.

so you didn't have a risk assessment filled out, your toxic waste handling certificate, and you didn't have your space suit on when you went to get it. He was just thinking about your health.
