  • Low Power Computer for boats

I was using a laptop and even laptops are bulky and relatively heavy, this may be a better option. I'ts been around for a while and there are other low power PCs about. The monitor was always going to be a problem but now there is a nifty 7" display which is powered and fed from the USB socket of the PC. Since it runs XP I'll use it with Seaclear for my emergency navigation needs. I've carried a 7Ah battery with me as a last ditch supply for the laptop (with step-up adaptor). I guess if this thing is just running Seaclear or similar then it's probably running at less than 10W but include the monitor at about 3W then it needs something around 1A to run. So I could run it from my battery for about 3 hours, hopefully longer.

The very small size is great for smallish boats could be tucked away just about anywhere.

The PC is voltage tolerant (8-14) and runs on a nominal 12V dc supply i.e. ideal for battery use

you won't need to be on your boat soon, just sit in the dinning room and send it off and remote control it and your rods and reels.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs
