  • Grrrrrr - TLD15 Bearings

Being the tackle tart & ebay obsessive I am, I now own 5 X TLD 15's.

I decided I'd order spare bearings to keep them regularly serviced, I knew were 2 off 7x17x5 bearings needed but wasn't sure what size the smaller spool bearings are so stripped a reel down a measured them with a vernier. Champion, bearings located at a good price, ordered & received.

Came to service a different reel and the smaller bearings (that I now own 20 off) are too small

Turns out I measured up a reel with the old style handle which has:

    2 off 7x17x5 bearings & 2 off 5X11X4 bearings

the reels with the newer style handle need:

    2 off 7x17x5 bearings & 2 off 6x12x4 bearings

I never dreamed the internals would be different - Doh!!!!!
    Cheers, Keith.

Keith thats why they say things like the older shimano's are better than the new ones

as they are as cheap now as they were 25 years ago

I have to admit Sean other than the 1mm difference in the bearing size they appear identical inside.
      Cheers, Keith.
