After an early morning start we set the boat up and headed for a spot of trolling around 'The World' (that crazy man made islands in the shape of the world project that has virtually bankrupt Dubai) Although this is seen to be a waste of space and a project that has been destine to fail for years the one advantage to us anglers is there is now a huge man made reef 10km out to sea, and although the investors have disappeared the fish have arrived in numbers.
We started fishing close to the SW corner of the world (south america) and seen huge shoals of bait fish getting battered from both larger fish and sea gulls, we tried circling these a couple of times and other than a couple of small runs we got nothing. We made our way clockwise around 'the world' and again seen allot of surface activity however our endeavour was short lived as the security boat appeared took our pictures and then told us to foxtrot oscar!
We followed their instructions and followed the 1km buoys around the remainder of 'The World' and then after about 5 minutes Keith's reels started screaming! After a ten minute fight we finally seen something what was approaching 4ft long ...... with teeth! We soon slipped our net under a lovely Barracuda approx 10lb, After alittle dentistry we released the big fella!
We managed a few more runs and without hook up for all but one (however I had that run therefore I lost it)!As the sun rose higher in the sky the temperatures were exceeding 45'C we swapped our fishing rods for the wakeboard, and its here things turned bad!
Shane, (a very good wakeboarder) took a rare tumble and ended up on his arse in the water, as we steamed back to get him to start his run again we all (all three of us) seen afish jumping out the water and travelling very fast towards Shane (who was treading water at this point) and we all said "that the feeek is that"! Before we had time to warn Shane the fish was uponhim!
When we reach Shane he insisted he came and board and he did not want to wakeboard again! when he came aboard we could see why! see pics! The fish, a Gar fish we think, hit into Shanes head a couple of times causing multi lasherations to his ear and side of his head!Guys its one of those things you had to see to believe and I know there are so many such stories in fishing!
To be honest, I was pssssssing myself laughing however his ear was in a right state!
I guess he moral of the story is, put your toys away and keep fishing!
Anyway, until next time!
