Hello alan,
Just catching up the mail after a few weeks away. I had a dinghy 30 years ago and have another one of the same ilk now. Had a small fishfinder in the 70\'s and the main fish caught were cod, whiting haddock and pouting with mackeral and coalfish in the summer as well. Never had bass, pollack or ling. Mainly fished Hartlepool or Shields and never more than a couple miles out, usually less than a mile.
Now I fished out of Seaham this year and had cod, pollack, mackeral, ling, coalfish and an odd bass. Ling to 13 pound within half mile of the piers. The other lads in our club specifically target ling or cod on the wrecks with different end tackle and bait. sometimes they cannot get past the ling to get the cod. Cod is definitely in short supply to what it used to be in the 70\'s. The lads on the beaches will confirm this. also the whiting are not seasonal anymore and the last time I caught spurdog on the beach was in the 70\'s. Never seen one for over 25 years.
