      Norway

      haddock to 6lb
      Coalies to 12lb
      Wolfish - 12lb
      Redfish - 5lb
      Ling to 10lb
      Cod to 30lb

but plenty of them!!!!!!! It is arm aching because they come thick and fast with the only respite being the slack tide - even deep in the fjords. Couple of hours with little action then bang - its like Groundhog day

                  Good info there steve.
Was the fishing at malangen as good at lyngen? Myself and 3 others are heading to Buvik, malangen next year and could do with some info on that area.
Where abouts were u staying? Looking at the charts, nearly the whole area seems to be very deep (upto 450 metres), What depth did u find fished the best. Did u fish the open sea?
Cheers in advance for any info.

Fishing at Malangen was as productive as the Lyngen - but we only ventured out to open sea from the Malangen fjord as we had two boats (safety in numbers!!!) having said that the main fish caught in the open sea was mainly coalies as we noticed bait fish bouncing on the surface so we headed for that action and ended up having a 2 hour scrap as we launched into a shoal of them - we changed gear to fly rods and spinners to intensify the fun.action - and a 10lb coalie on a spinner or a fly has to be experienced....
The fishing from the fjords were true to the maps provided - there were a list of marks/depths - provided by the owners - which tallied up with the fish finders - a lot of it was a learning experience - looking for drop offs and fishing deep water - some of the fjords are so deep they will strip your reels and take the backing line as well and you still wont be on the bottom. Then if you are unlucky enough (!!) to get a decent fish on it is a long haul in. Butt rests are essential!!
Stayed at Haveness Handlestaad which is on the Lyngen Fjord - owner was a lass called Hegga and the accommodation was fine. This year stayed at a gaff called Fearihoose on the Malangan Fjord - absolutely top class facilities. Ian Peacock (NE Din Tur Rep) is based out of NETS Ryhope Rd Seaham - we have used him twice and he is knowledgeable about most of the locations cos he reckons he has fished them all - bummer of a job!!!!!! My advice to anyone fancying a trip would be to call him for the lowdown. Having said that there are a number of other companies offering similar holidays in Norway. My previous experience of fishing abroad was a trip to Iceland shore fishing - I can also thoroughly recommend that as well - the fishing was manic and loads of fish caught from dawn till dusk.
