Uptiding with cod up to 10lb.

With the tides being bang on for uptiding and to much wind forcast to go offshore today we decided we going to give the uptiding a bash the lads came up from coventry for a day on sea-otter 2 and they werent disapointed one of the lads getting his personal best cod nudgeing over the 10lb mark worm and squid did best today but frozen cart wasnt far behind but fresh cart today it really fished well better than frozen but in the next couple of weeks frozen will start to take over we had a coalie which went over 5lb plus an odd ling but at the end of the day the lads enjoyed themselves it started windy but as the day went on it fell away leaving a lovelly afternoon.

One of the lads thought he had the winner he had a cracking bite struck statred to wind but was stuck on bottom but then the fish freed it self but it wasnt a monster be it didnt matter he still got his fish.


Big smiles for this man first time on a boat and wins the sweep with a 10lb cod.

Codfather most of the fishing is actually downtiding i try and get the lads to spread there lines at the back of the boat we are usually fishing very hard ground and uptiding often ends with fish being lost in snags not all of the time but it can happen quite regular if you cast uptide if a fish takes the bait it will instantly pull your breakaway out and trot down tide with there often being a lot of snags boulders etc you often get jammed up if uptiding a rottom bottom is recomended but it is a lot easyer to downtide with a lot less tackle loss and fish loss.

Anywhere between 40-60ft but sometimes after a swell i will go into 20ft sometimes the cod are litterally just out of casting distance from the shore.

Cheers norman a lot of lads havent tryed the uptiding or downtiding but it is great sport especially if you manage to hook in a double figure fish we got this cod uptiding a few years ago 400 yds of saltwick nab the lad mark is from southport i took him and his mates out new years eve day they begged me to take them out so i said come lads the forcast was good and what a day it turned out be mark got this brute on a full squid in 50ft of water he weighed it a whitby angling and it went 28lb a dream fish for mark a fish like this in uptiding festival would fantastic.
