I'm out on the boat tomorrow for the first time....ever!!

    Anyone got some general advice?

Buy some of my big treble hooks in the for sale section only joking.

    Keep off the drink tonight.

Bag as much fresh mackeral as you can for bait then fish big baits, if it looks too big, double it

Had a few trips this year where the trusty storm shads have prevented me from blanking. So cover your options, flowing traces, baited muppets, baited hokkais, baited daylites, pirks, shads etc.

I'd take at least 20 sinkers and traces / rigs.

    Good Luck.
    Cheers, Keith.

Wrap up warm in layers, make sure you've got waterproofs - can be suprisingly cold out on the open water and worse if you get wet.

Take a selection of baits and lures/jigs, never know what the fish are taking until you're out there.

bottle of juice and some ginger biscuits, keep nibbling and drinking, just in case you get a bit seasick

To go with Keiths hooks my pirks would be good also

All of the above and you cant get many better days, make the most of the morning fishing as after 1ish the drift will pick up and the chances of fish reduced.

Best two methods for me this year has been baited muppets and a twin tail orange or lumi.

Just to add my bit , I agree on taking plenty of gear and a variety .

My tip is a decent breakfast ,my choice would be a toasted bacon or sausage sarnie ,it works for me as when I feel hungry I feel a bit dodgy as well .

Thanks for the advice lads, shouldn't be sea sick as I have been out on boats before.

If its your first time out ...listen to the skipper....its not his first time out.

Any skipper worth his cash will give good advice...even if its only ..."you should have been out with us yesterday".

The variety of gear and end rigs means its impossible to cover every option so take the basics (beg borrow or steal any of the finer bits you dont have)

My personal recommendation would be to keep the baits large as Richie mentioned. Seems to be plenty of ling out there and even a 5lb ling has no problem swallowing a WHOLE mackrel, and it saves reeling in scotchies and whiting.

                      Cheers
                      Dave

Speaking of whiting!!! they make canny ling bait if you do struggle for macky.
                        Cheers, Keith.

The skipper is actually a good mate and I'm using his gear. He's also aware I'm gonna be bugging the sh*t out of him for tactics lol

Really looking forward to it. Look out for the catch report........hopefully

Daft when you think I've fished 25 years and never once been out on the boat.
