New boat.

Heres a one for the old sea dogs on here.
I retire from the Police in under 3 years time and would love to get myself a fishing boat. The main reason being relaxation and not to live off the amount of fish i catch.
I like the look of the Predator boats 175 with a decent outboard.
Cost is up to £10,000.

However i have a couple of problems.

I have no-where to keep the boat so would have to pay for storage-does anyone else do this.

Using a tow--is it possible to launch on your own--i cannot see this being easy.

If the boat was kept in a Marina or port are the costs extorniate?.

I really really like the look of this baby. How much is it to insure?.

Was talking to a guy in the yachting club at Seahouses and he reckons yearly membership for use of the tidal harbour is about £250 a year.
Problem here is the boat is up and down like a yo yo and its a chew on gettin to and from the boat.

I'm guessing it would cost you about £1000 per year to keep a boat like that in a marina and maybe about £200 per year to insure.

try willington boat club i know the storage and ramp and insurance was around £230 for the lot they have a good ramp there which u can launch your boat 1 hour either side of low water up to high dont know about the mooring fees but its worth a look

My mate is in the boat club at newburn they have a big yard and club house etc amd a floating platform for the boats in the water. I have been thinking of getting a boat and keeping it there and I am sure he said it was £120 per year its a secure site. I will check with him when he is back off holiday next week if you want they have there own slipway as well. I am positive that there are a few of the river police in there club as well with boats down there

Budget berths at Amble work out around £90 a month for the full 12 months.
I launch from the Amble boat club which has a good slip costs around £160 a year which includes harbour dues.
Would'nt recomend launching on your own especialy when your getting it back in. Can be a pain when you can't get a partner to go out but thats why its a lot cheaper.
They have moorings in the river but security is minimul.
I can travel from home, longhoughton, and can be heading out between the piers in under an hour. Getting trailored back up can be a pain when you've had a long day.

When its trailored you can tinker on when you want if its at home which can be a bonus sometimes.

Its great when your out there though and it nice and calm.....

The west pontoon at Hartlepool marina is cheaper for boats under 5.5m, think its about £600, the access is limited with the outside channel to the lock getting shallow. you can usually get out 1-1.5 hrs either side of low water. Rumor has it, that it may get dredged for the tall ships coming to Hartlepool next year, so may improve.

you right, they will be dredging the channel at the pool, probably just before the event, for obvious reasons.

the royal quays <6m berths are just under a grand a year all in

for the money instead of a warrior/predator/raider have a look at the reiver sportsman, much 'bigger' boat in terms of actual usable space when you aboard, and a lot cheaper, built in stanley so you can go and watch your boat being built if you want

single handed launching is no big deal, the key is the best possible roller coaster trailer you can find for the boat

as for towing/launching, launching is the easy bit, recovery if there's a bit of a cross wind is a right pain on your own

mick put it in the marina towing and launching all the time are a right pain in the butt then find a nice place to store your trailer i store mine on a caravan storage place and i get charged 60 per year

as for insurance i pay 125 for 10,000 pounds worth of cover and i have 20 miles from any safe haven also my third part liability is now 4 million

I'm with Mark on the reiver sportsman aswell, great little boats, never heard a bad word from other people who have owned them. Its supprising the amount of people in the marina that started off with a reiver.

I used to work at Stanley and i have passed Reiver boats thousands of times. Never thought the company was still making boats it looks like a right dump. Still its in South Stanley and out that looks flash round there will end up being screwed.
Blackrat was there recently looking at the boats and he texted me.
I think a mooring is the way forward for me-some days i know i will be out on my own.
The quays looks a canny option. Seaham when it gets its new Marina is also in my mind.
I would miss not trying other places though like Seahouses and Whitby. This is the advantage of having a boat on the trailer. £15 to launch from seahouses.
