Dave,
I meant to post last night to appologise for disturbing you, but I was a bit tipsy.
Bert had heard the engine miss a couple of times as we headed out, so he said we would play safe and just drop anchor and fish in the harbour. We just got inside the piers and the engine packed up all together and we couldn\'t get the anchor to hold. There was big ship heading in and we were drifting in to it\'s path, there was boat similar to yours further up the river similar, so I rang on the off chance it was you. Claire managed to get the boats attention and he kindly came and towed us to the moorings where we tied up against another boat. Then Alan Skinner kindly towed us to the right moorings! THANKS ALAN! (not sure if you look in here)
If anyone knows or sees the skipper / owner of \"Linda Q\" in the marina, please pass on a BIG THANKS!
Cheers, Keith.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE !!!!!!!!
Well things have just about been explained by Keith
I only changed the filters 3 trips ago so thought things were ok ! How wrong could i be ??
A big thanks to all involved in pwer rescue as mentioned above
Went accross to the boat today to take the fuel tank off for a little clean out !!! on inspection you could\" dig ragworm\" out the sludge
So a water blast and a scrub down later---------wished we never even started as the sludge was covering up some holes in the bottom !!! tank fooked
Off to scrap yard for new tank and got a one of a geet big lorry!! about 40-50 gallon with about 20 gallon of cacky poo still in it !! Once drained out there was quite a bit gunge in it !!
Cut another 2 inspectin hatches in made some covers and sealed and self tapped on and a coat of primer looks ok !!! Now just got to sort out the BSP pipe connections fit on boat new filters (again) bleed thru then take it from there fingers x`ed
Since i`ve been in charge of \"THE BOYS\" we have only put good fuel from a reliable sorce a the Royal Quays so i think its just years on top of years of use!!! not going to blame pops .....lol
Is this a thing that happens ??? to fuel tanks ?....how often do they need checking etc ...? coz i`m only a beginner in this boat maintanance lark as always had other people to take care of that side of things....
But spirits a still high and its a down to experience now YOU LIVE AND LEARN so they say...lol
once again thanks to all involved because without help things could have been much worse
bertCheers Bert

You just need a Gallon of REDEX- works wonders- it\"ll be the smoothest Engine on the Tyne LOL - Pleased you got back in one piece - try to have the hose a bit up the tank so you have a bit of a sump this will stop you drawing in a load of crap, but with modern diesal (red included) you shouldnt be getting bad fuel anyway, maybe it was down to all the years of topping up with owt that was available.

Bert to be honest i was only kidding on about the Redex, but if you have never put a diesal additive through your engine you might want to give it a go ,try and pour it straight into the engine ,maybe pouring about a quarter of a gallon mixed with a FULL bottle of redex (halfords) into the engine this will clear the pots of any Sh*te /residue on valves /seats Etc. then run it in the normal way,it reduces emissions and could make your engine more economical- dont know about faster, but it wont do it any harm.

Forgot I\'d even tried your number Norman lol, hope I didn\'t wake you as well.
One good thing to come out of it all, after I nearly fell in a couple of times while catching ropes at the front of the boat, our lass agrees I need to invest in a flotation suit mind, she doesn\'t know about the Shiman TLD 15 on it\'s wayCheers, Keith.

Hi Bert , I may be wrong but I believe the sludge you seen in the tank is a bacteria that actually lives un diesel fuel , strange but true ! I\'ve never had it myself but heard about it . You can buy an anti bacterial agent from any good outlet and it will kill the **** in your system . Sounds like you\'ve a run of bad luck , nowt that you have missed in your maintenance schedule I\'ll check mine while I\'m on .

Thats exactly what it is Dave spot on m8 ,Bacteria. On board we dose every month with biocides in to our diesel tanks to kill them off. Household bleach should do the job also aswell as sodium hypochlorite in small doses of course
