That looks like great fun. How stable are those kayaks ? Can they be lifted easily onto a car roof rack ?

Thirdly have you seen all the shark reports recently

Love the pics , the best one is the yak hidden in all the surf spray , brilliant but I think you's guys are either very daring or mad going out to sea in them , I've never seen an angler in one yet but a guy paddled past me about a mile and a half out one day like he was out for a stroll in the park and another day fishing behind coquet island I thought I was hearing things when a conversation could be clearly heard with not a soul in sight , then these canoes came past with the occupants chatting away
        Be careful lads

Really enjoyed the pictures & great fish.
Kayaking looks to be really good fun but I expect it must be pricey by the time you buy all the gear. I also guess it must be very seasonal.
            Nice report.
I will only be out for a couple of hours pet.

It is fun the kayaks are very stable except when landing in surf but a little practice in the surf minus gear soon makes you look like a pro (well most of the time) you wont get tipped out to sea it just sits on the swell. The ones in the pictures are mainly prowler big games which are the biggest you get. I can get it ontop of my car but its not ideal alone. would recomend a prowler 13 which is much easyier to handle. the big game is ideal for the larger/heavier than average type bloke.

Its save ray as long as you go out in company and have all the correct gear which is the same as a small boat radio gps flares lifejacket drysuit etc.......

                  Nice report.
You can get second hand gear but its not much cheaper i recon a basic set up with safety gear would cost around the £800 mark. As for seasonal it depends on seas and wind but the way the conditions have been the last couple of years you could get out more in the winter. You would be suprised the amount of fish out there just past the casting distance. we normally fish between 200mtrs and 2000mtrs out although the majority is around 500.

Have to agree with you mick, it's the best thing i ever did apart from shore angling! I have fished for over 30 years from the shore but i am certainly going to give thy yak a go in the winter with more settled days than rough over the last few years. most of the fish seem to be out of casting range so the kayak i feel is the best option as long as all the safety isues are taken into account. Always best to go out in company and there seems to be more and more of us taking the sport up.
                    Just add water!

                          Hello,
Great photos, thanks for posting them. It was great to see this post as I didn't realise that there were as many kayakers on the site.
I've just this summer bought a Prowler Trident 13, and I'm just getting used to it and gaining a bit of confidence. I've had a few fish around the marsden and whitburn areas but I've never seen anyone else out in this area so it was good to see the post.
I had some good advice from the posts on the Whitby Sea Anglers site and Peter McFarlane sent me a p.m. which was good as years ago we were in the same fishing club.
Here's a link to my post on the whitby site.

                          Regards Ian.
