    Quote from the journal.....
Two men and a youth in an inflatable dinghy were rescued after they drifted a mile out to sea in heavy winds yesterday, seemingly unaware of the danger they were in.

The three, aged 15, 20 and 34, all from the Blyth area had set out to sea in the eight-foot boat but were blown out by strong gusts.

A member of the public called the coastguard at 3.38 yesterday afternoon who sent out a lifeboat from Newbiggin to rescue the three in the Cambois Bay area, north of Blyth.

The rescue came as Newbiggin Lifeboat Station held their annual open day, showing off their lifesaving equipment. One of the lifeboats was diverted from the display to the rescue.

Newbiggin Station Mechanic Richard Martin said: \"They didn\'t seem to appreciate the danger they were in but when we told them they realised, because of the wind, the further they got away from the shore, the greater the risk.

\"It\'s quite a weight of people in such a boat like that and water could easily have got in. But for a member of the public making a 999 call and the quick response of all the emergency services, this incident may not have had such a happy ending.\"

A rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer and Blyth Coastguard were also sent out to the boat.

A spokeswoman for Humber Coastguard said: \"We advise people that if they go to sea in a small boat, especially an inflatable that can be blown offshore, they can get into difficulties. There are strong currents in the Cambois area and people need to be aware of the dangers.\"

Yesterday\'s incident was the fourth sea rescue in the North-East in the last five months.

When will they learn.....................quite ironic they took the Lifeboat away from Blyth...........could have been alot worse, excellent work AGAIN by the rescue services.
    Cheers Alan...

To Right,I can see why two young\'uns might, but you would think that someone 34yrs old would have a little more\" common\" about them,..It\'s just as well some one/service is their to drag them out of the sh1t or they would be geting picked up in a body bag by now Then again they might have being trying to hall aboard that lost drugs stash, that was dredged up by a trawler the other week,, but then again I doubt if they were clever enough to find it,,,, appologies to most of the people in Blyth cos I know its not as bad as it looks
