You are right about the tide having less effect further off due to the 'coastal effect' - but the wind is the problem.
My policy is not to take anglers out if they don't have a realistic chance of catching fish for most of the day. The drift will be so quick most of this weekend that it will be unfishable.
If you launch tomorrow at 7.am the tide will be running hard and for 3-4 hours you are wasting your time. Slack is around noon and it is only worth fishing an hour either side of it before it takes off again.
Next weekend the tides are perfect for drift fishing wrecks though.
