  • What fish did i catch ?

    We were boat fishing today about a mile off Sunderland. My lad coaught a fish like I've never see before.
    30cm long redish orange with fan type fins/wings either side with a neon blue stripe on the edge.

    not very heavy.

    It was not a wrass not spikey enough but had the same sort of look.

    Any ideas chaps.

    Maybe a red gurnard.

      i agree deffo sounds like a gurnard i had 2 from the boat out at sunderland last week

        It was more than likely a Dragonette, they are a prehistoric looking fish similar to the gurnard, but more brightly coloured. hope this helps, Ankle Biter

          Thanks chaps, my son is now winning the £10 for the first fish caught and the most interesting.




          Such a lucky bugger 3 minutes he had his line in the water and he was winnin a tenner.

              Colours are most likely to attract a mate I would guess.

                    Nice one Bigman, That fits the bill, i misread the post and thought the blue was along the length of the body. we should of had a pic.
