I think t really depends what you value the most on a reel

Versatility: imo not much needed in our waters as we hardly cast and also the fish dont run against the break. A boat reel only brings the fish up or the empty sinker after a drift

size, weight and handling: if you are more a shadder you dont want a Senator type big one

1 speed vs 2-speed: I like my 2 speed saltist, because I reel in super fast after the wreck has passed and when I have a fish, I can reel him up in a much friendlier ratio

build quality: funnily enough, a messy angler like me, who leaves the reel on the boat and does not look well after them needs the better build and not the one who carries the reel in a cotton cloth to the boat, rinses them at home, blowdries and oils after a 10 hr fishing trip. My reels are full of macky scales. I neeeeeed a Saltist

my recommendation is a Saltist LD 2 speed or all the Saltists

not bad are the Shimano range but they have dodgy bearings

Mind, you could be right, I nearly lost it with an ignorant, annoying p@@@k who was blocking the bar as I tried to pass carrying three pints.
reminds me of a scene in Trainspotting.

I've used a Mitchell Riptide for several years now without any problems. I have the 6/0gl which is a big heavy beast, I now use the 4/0gl which I find much better. They have both been very reliable and can be picked up at a good price. Some ,I'm sure some will slate them but I look after my gear and have not had a problem with them.

I can't fault my abu 7000, had the same one at least 8 years without a bit of bother, all its had is the odd rinse of fresh water and some wd40 once a year if its lucky.
It's handles everything it's asked with strings of macky, fish upto the 20's and a bit uptiding.

Tried others including the tld 15's but still prefer the old abu 7000.

Think if the euro's lotto ticket came in I would have a try of the saltist 20 ld

I still haven't found one I like! Tried the Penn 320, Diawa Firewolf and a Shimano Charter Special. I was thinking about a squall, but now I'm not so sure!

                Just bought myself a fin-nor marquesa 20
I've not had chance to use it yet but having great reviews from everywhere
Still love my tld's & never had any problems with either the 15 or 30 I own & the 15 is approx 18 year old now,
I'm tempted to buy a saltist aswell as these also come with great reviews

I like the bright red colour, but looks a bit old fashioned for a cool guy like me!

Well if it was at least a £100 less I might be interested!

                      Looks very cool though!

looks like all their reels are pretty well made, solid and very stylish, yes I like the look. Just the price is a bit steep for my needs but look good value in comparison i'll keep my eye out for any bargains. you never know
