went out from whitby yesterday , up to 15 mile off it looks like pea soup,

but it dos,nt seem to put the fish off, i,m told its the same at brid

i dont know if its the same from the surface to the sea bed ,

any divers looking at this post might know ,

does anybody know what it is and what causes it

it knocks my confidence off fishing in it ,tightlines lop

Rough weather causing sand in the water, planton ans just general dirty from the main land.

I am told it the same all the way down unless its a mix of fresh water and salt water..in that case it would be better on the bottom as the fresh water is on the top.

Fish only see shapes anyway they say but if its dirty just use lots of bait, they fish with smell most of the time anyway rather than sight.

It has been bad for a few weeks now and only clears when you get well offshore. I think the heavy rainfall we have had recently washes fertilisers from the land into the sea which feeds the algae bloom.

      But thats just a theory

pretty much spot on, algal bloom and relatively normal, wind/tides move it about a bit so some years its not noticed, that week of hot weather will have brought it on quite a bit as well

its mainly phytoplankton, which in turn feeds zooplankton, which in turn feeds the tiny fish, which feed the not quite as tiny fish and so on up the food chain to the big fish, so its a pretty important phenomenon

more common further north, but some years its drifts further south

Just need some settled weather to go out and catch the middle to top of that food chain
