  • make your own .....

was looking around tackle dealers on www for a new rod (probably go for another trusty Ugly Stik .... unless anyone has any good views on an alternative)
    however came across this (picture)

I've cropped it to save the blushes of the retailer (not local I hasten to add) , but really, surely, no one can be charging £2.65 for a 12 oz lead ???? or am I just living a sheltered life ?

I thought the lads may of converted you to the solid carbon rods by now.

The new range of Ugly Stiks are a bit pricey.
      Cheers, Keith.

theres so many rods on the market .......
I`ve been through many (most are cheapies stored in the garage roof now) but found that when I got an Ugly Stik it was spot on so I`ve got two now ... but my 15-20lb is showing signs of wear lol must be a good sign in itself ..... maybe stick with what I know I think for round about the £50-£60 mark ..... ideas most welcomed though ......

ps I could maybe manage 3 X 12 oz leads for the price (and still make a profit)

The only problem with the Fladen I've found has been the build quality IE flakey varnish and eyes prone to bending out of shape if caught in the car or on the gunnel...other than that great rod

The Ugly Stiks are solid rods tho and see why they are popular (after all my first few trips with Norman I used his spare one )

I think my maxximus is a different model to yours Tony, not had any bother yet. Mind, I have felt it "flex" around the reel seat when trying to pull out of snags, not that happens very often for me
                      Cheers, Keith.

I say just stick with what your happy with.

I purchased about 4 new rods in the last few years and still only use the Abu 12lb class one everytime as i am used to it and trust it.

I have got a penn international tidecutter which I bought three years ago. Honestly I swear by it. I bought it as a package with the reel (320 lever drag), 30Lb braid and backing monofilament. I think it was just over £200 for the lot. The only niggle I could point out are the braid rings which are single leg, you have to be a bit careful with them so as not to bend them. I thought the rod was that good I bought the 12-20lb version as well and the 30-50lb will be coming soon! I think penn have discontinued the range so there may be a few on line bargains to be had!
