  • salty fish.

Tried something different the other day lads.
Filleted my 3 big cod on the way in yesterday and put 6 fillets in bucket with sea water. When i got in the harbour put the fillets in my plastic bag then into the cooler box in the back of me motor. all 6 frozen without rinsing when i got home. I remember an angler at guy at Seahouses telling me when you get home put them straight in the freezer without rinsing in cold water.
Anyway just had a big fillet for my tea and all i can taste is salt.
When i have another will rinse in cold water but dont think i will be trying this angle again.
What do you guys do with the fish.
    Mick.

fillet, skin and bone, rinse in running (do not leave in a basin of water) cold water, dry off with towel, stick in batter and then in hot oil, and eat the bxxxxrs, sometimes they make it to the freezer.

I rinse the gutted fish when home in fresh water then fillet skin and bone then clingfilm and in the freezer never rinse in fresh water before freezing so the flesh doesn't soak any water up I rinse the fillets once defrosted dry with kitchen roll coat in a beaten egg then bread crumbs n shallow fry MMMM!!
Personally cant get away with fresh unfrozen like it frozen first it does it for me

get as much water off them as possible before freezing, press it out with kitchen towel, other wise when it freezes, the water expands and breaks the flesh down

even if not freezing em I sprinkle a tiny bit of salt on to draw out a bit of moisture and leave them in the fridge an hour or 2, then do the kitchen towel thing then cook the fellas

        makes a huge difference IMHO

after filleting i rinse under the cold tap then leave it in the fridge overnight, i think it gives a much better taste (not too salty). try it you'll be suprised.

Thanks guys. I will rinse off my future fillers and see how they are. Presume they should be ok as salt is a preservative and rinsing should remove most.
Next time i catch this amount of fish i,ll not be putting the fillets in a bucket of salt water.
            Mick.
Oh and i have never had a slab of cod from my local chippy like the one i shallow fried last night. My local chippy serves more batter then fish.
