how much room you got to mount one?

most important bit I guess is the chart cartridge, take a couple of hundred quid out of your budget for that then look what plotter you can get with the change

garmin's are pretty easy to use though, but for the money you can get other makes with a bigger screen

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

Whatever you do get a colour one. the screen is almost impossible to read in direct sunlight on my greyscale one.

      Cheers

as well as the big maxsea system, we've a cobra plotter on board, has a 6" screen, and prefer it to some of the garmin stuff I've had in the past. If you look around these are regularly offered with a deal on a c-map mega wide cartridge, we got ours for 300 odd quid with the mega wide cartridge included

Buy Electronic Chart Plotters at Gael Force Marine Chandlery have got them at £349 with a free local cartridge

or give paul a shout at northern marine in orkney GPS Plotters , Northern Marine Orkney LTD

you can usually negotiate a good deal for all sorts from him, he's doing 6" standard horizon plotters, which a lot of folks swear by, with a free cartridge at the moment for 300 odd

or I've still got some of the ex fisheries protection vessels, military spec laptop plotters if you've got room for one!
