Me and Micky sold Nefin before Christmas and replaced her with a four year old warrior 150. The boat came fitted with a mariner 30hp long shaft two stroke which just isn't enough to get her on the plane with the two of us aboard. We are deliberating which route to take for a replacement engine whether thats a brand new one or a secondhand one.
The warrior people said that the boat is best matched to a 50hp engine as a 60hp was maybe a touch too heavy especially if it was a four stroke with the 50hp giving speeds over 30knots, a touch faster than Nefin's 8 knots flat out!
We have been burned once before with a dodgey used engine and always bought new since, two tohatsu's with no problems but with this size of engine the price has increased just a little compared to the 10hp and 15hp we have bought previously. We would prefer a new one with warranty etc but its the cost you have to weigh up especially with marina fees due this month and me trying to convince my missus! With the season looming the decision has to be made and any input would be welcome or if anyone knows of a good used engine for sale or a good deal on a new one. Make is unimportant just as long as the engine is in tip top condition at the right price. It just seems when you look at secondhand engines people expect crazy money for old engines or at least that is what it looks like. Thanks in adavance,
Graham.
