graveyard is getting on for 40 miles off. If we get things sorted, sorta place we fancy having a plod out to. Plenty of big wrecks out there, but they have been heavily fished commercially over the last few years, although not as much in the last 2 from what I've been told

for info codfather i was about 36 miles off and that took about 2 hrs in which direction i wont say he he he

i used about 60 litres of fuel but that was out and back and all running about

it is good offshore and the fishing can be brilliant but sometimes you are steaming over fish

Plenty of room for crew, just don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry!

She may well sail again, she was built for it originally.

for any budding yotties out there she is effectively a Zulu hull which were well know for there speed and seakeeping, although with a few amends to take a proper engine she is technically a Baldie! and the biggest one afloat anywhere in the world

Have gotten to know the family that had her built in 1937 as a replacement for their previous boat, which was also called pansy and is now sitting at the bottom of loch ness - I've got a sail plan drawn up, we had a heavy tan lugsail donated, currently sat in Ell's garage, just need some big sticks to put it on and some string or something!

they reckon they could get more speed out of her under sail than on the old kelvin motor that was in her, 6-8knots under motor, 10-12 under sail, one things for sure it'll be a damn site cheaper these days

be lovely to bowl along through the night under sail, usually shocks people just how quiet sailing is, no noise at all, just the slap of the waves!

Norway has been mentioned..... take us 2 or 3 days non stop to get there though!

but certainly want to get some big miles in this summer if we can, waiting on a time slot for some 'Fred' treatment first

Yes it is a long way but what you have got to look at is flat out and 5 to 6 miles per gallon my boat will do about 33 mph or about 28 knots if you like

so if you are out there and it starts blowing then of course we move further in and yes in just about 1/2 an hour we a have covered 15 miles if it is worsening then we might have to drop speed a bit but not by much and thats the way to look at it i only go on very calm days

i also have on my boat 2 comasses 2 gps's 2 vhf's a big aerial and can talk to land as far off as i have been, so the coast gaurd i would have no problems. i also have an auxhillary engine that will push me along at 10mph i also have offshore flare pack auto inflate life jackets aboard and have started wearing one all the time i am in the process of getting a pesonal locator that would be acctivated if i went overboard i have loads of other things i dont see on other boats but i am as safe as i can be

i took coddy out and it was flat but the forcast was the wind coming from the north a couple of times the breeze seemed to pick up ask coddy i woulnt go off as its not worth the risk

Down on the holderness coast where i first started with a boat its full of boat compounds and most of them boats used to go over 20 miles off it was the done thing out to the gas rigs fill the boat with fish then back in and this was regular from one compound i know it was a race to get out as you didnt want anyone getting your mark you might get out and no one else come out but some days there was over 20 boats offside even now lots of them all go offside

south coast boys go well off

it just seem to be a stigma with the north east lads that going further is a big no no why ??

I was surprised how clear we were getting the coastguard on the way back down, well over 30 miles off at tone point but still coming through as clear as anything. We're probably putting MF and SSB on as well the VHF.

one thing we need to get done and don't know if anyone knows anywhere local to get it done thats not stupid expensive, but we need the liferaft servicing

it depends on make as some have to be done by certain suppliers and i thinkk its seago that have to go back to cosalt and they are mega expensive

Sounds like your all kitted up Sean, I noticed all the gadgets on top of your cab.

Trying my best at the mo to get a new boat sorted for start of season, but hard doing loads of overtime at work at the same time.

Hopeing to get some decent weather this year and get some decent trips out, sure we'll see each other out their. I'll fetch me passport lol.


Been reading through my diving books for more marks to plot out and try.

We could quite easily act as a mother ship for any Yakkers wanting to get offshore as well.

Also can I shout at people / crew, I never get the chance to do it at work.

Once we're ready it would be a pleasure to take fellow NESA heads out. CAN'T WAIT ..... but will have to for now though.
