  • What set up?

Right then, as I have mish mash of gear from over the years I want to look towards nxt year and a new rod!
What rod lb should I look at as it's inshore ground mainly I fish and what braid should I spool reel? Think I'm using 50lb Chinese stuff at moment
Then depending on conditions what would be preferred weight oz to send it down into the depths?

I'd go for a 20lb rod, that should cover for bait and shads. a kenzaki braid the rod of choice (next years rod for me)50lb chinese is fine but I have moved to 8 strand not 4 strand Anywhere between 6 to 10oz for sinker.

I am using a 12/20 ugly stick which is certainly lively and fun with shads.

Rod of choice would be 12 to 20 lb, 30 or 40 lb braid, and if you are fishing in relitively shallow water, a 4 or 6oz lead. There's nowt worse than fishing a heavy lead on a light rod. Obviously, tide and wind dictates what you can get away with.
I personally fish as light as conditions will allow, using a very light rod, fixed spool reel with 30lb Chinese braid, 2_3oz lead, so there's lots of fun even with small fish.

This year we bought two 20/30 salt cod rods which are 9' long. I did this after been out and all the fish were at the top of the stroke when hopping and jigging. As I very rarely use anything over 10oz in weight these have been perfect.

I have some 20lb class rods but for jigging I fid them a tad soft.

I still however have a couple of 50lb rods when the fish are playing ball on the pirks and muppets and use these for hauling them up.

Think I'm going to go into next season with 2 set ups, one for heavy work and one set up for really light work/sport
