Thanks for posting the pics Kieth, was going to ask you or Norman about 3 months ago when i got the boat.
The damage to the boat was caused on it's maiden voyage in Dublin May 08, the owner thought it was a shoal of mackerel on the fish finder ( so i am told ), bet he **** himself when it hit the rock and starting sinking, the boat has 6 hours on the clock, the boat went under up to the cabin, when the tide dropped it was refloated by the lifeboat and taken to dublin marina for a lift out and inspection ( the guy bought a new one before the insurance paid out )....maybe got a few lessons in seamanship FOC !!!....as mentioned earlier this is what i was told when i bought it.
When i brought the boat back to Royal Quays, i stripped out the interior to gain access to inspect the extent of the damage to the hull, as you can see by the pics you could get your arm through the hull to the inside of the cabin ( not ideal for a boat ), all damage was removed, repairs to the hull are now complete but need to wait till the weather warms up to re gellcoat the hull repairs, then antifoul.
The outdrive was ripped off from the boat and only held on by a cable, it suffered major damage tho the skeg ( smashed off ), this has since been repaired by Castle Marine in Wales and you cant see the repair, the duoprops likewise have been repaired ballanced and polished by the same company.....all parts to repair came from the USA, gimble ring, bearings, service kits and new cables etc etc etc
I removed the engine from the boat and took it home to work on in the confines of my warm garage it was solid and would not turn over, it was filled to the brim with diesel and left to stand for 6 weeks, the diesel was drained and the engine entirely stripped cleaned and rebuilt, the heads were removed and left to soak in the parts cleaner for a few weeks, when removed they were stripped, cleaned, valves removed and cleaned.
Fortunatley there was no internal damage so it was a straight forward strip, clean, and rebuild...it now turns over no problem on the starter, however i cant fire it up till it's back in the boat, i suspect there will be ECU problems, some of the sensors i have allredy replaced....all parts also came from the same company that supplied the outdrive parts, from order date till delivery was 10 days, not bad considering they had to order some of the parts first.
Fuse panels, wiring, and connectors have all been replaced, new guages came from a different supplier in the states, i am awaiting another delivery of parts at the moment.
So far i have spent approx £ 2200.00 on the engine and drive parts, £700.00 to have the leg repaired and £ 300.00 on fibreglass, various bits and bobs £ 500.00 ....not bad when you consider the amount of parts i have ordered, have no labour charges as i have done it all myself ( and thoughly enjoyed it ) hard but enjoyable when you see the before and after pics.
The boat is being stage surveyed as it progresses, this was insisted on by the insurance company, when i looked at the boat prior to purchase i estimated about 5k for repairs and so far am well within budget but know i still have a few quid to spend on her.
Will be getting stuck in over the next few weeks so hopefully all things being well the interior will be finished.......got some nice toys to fit in her as the original navman stuff will be knackered

divvent hoy the navman stuff bob, might be fixable. got a number somewhere of someone that does fixed price repairs on navman gear, wasn't that expensive if remember rightly, about 50 quid or summats for a finder, bit more for a plotter and bit less for a radio

What was the bloke doing looking for mackeral anyway in a fine boat like that, I wouldn't of wanted to get her dirty. Mind, it sounds like he would of just bought a new clean after a while lol.

The insurance company paid out £ 57k, because it has most of the extra's you can get, however with the credit crunch etc you could now pick up the same spec boat for £ 50k, so i would expect it to be worth around £ 37-£40k in the current climate with all the documented repair works and valid survey report, one thing that now helps the boat is the VAT increase in diesel prices making petrol engine boats a bit more appealing, fuel consumption wont be a great more than the diesel equivelent 250hp, but it will be lighter and faster.

Steve...the motto is Bob the builder can i fix it....YES I CAN !!!, it' like most things it's easy when you know how, and if you dont then ask, about 15/20 years ago me and my pal built several 18 foot boats ( same type as Berts ) from moulds, he was a fibre glass laminator by trade so i picked it up from him, fibre glassing fortunatly is not hard.
Through out my life i have allways enjoyed the challange, when someone says you cant fix that i take pleasure in proving them wrong

trying to find it now. Saw a few listings on ebay a couple of months back for fixed price navman repairs and sent him a message, thought it might be a useful one to know about

can't find the emil I had from him, so sent his ebay account a message asking for his contact details again
