I have a mercury with 3 year cover 5bhp for £669 with a 15ltr fuel tank and fittings.

When it comes i am going to take the boat out and go into the tide for 1 mile and see how long and how much fuel it uses as its test, then try it against the tide entering the river mouth.

Will post how it gets on incase anyone else wishes the info.

Its nothing more than a get me home from close in or keep out of danger such as close in at a rock mark and drifting inshore...start it up nudge it 1/2 mile until help comes.

the weight of a 10hp will put a lot of strain on the transom so there are significant disadvantages to hanging something that big off the boat.[/QUOTE]

hung a Johnson 10hp (American Version) which is actually 12hp, off the back of my Alaska 500 for donkeys years, and towed it over to the West coast with it on the back. If you fit the bracket properly with stainless steel plates there should be no problem. There's a photo somewhere on the site, had a quick look but can't find it, of my boat with the engines on. One thing make sure when you fit the bracket use a good sealant, you don't want any water ingress whatsoever, you can't see the damage being done until it is to late, that is what prodably causes what appears to be strain to a transom, the wood inside rots and you only have a fibre glass sheel left holding the weight of the engine.

put a bead of sikaflex around the pad, but when you bolt it on don't bolt it up tight, just enough to put some squeeze on the sika

leave it an hour or 2 for the sika to semi cure then bolt it up.

'cos sika has hardened off quite a bit, when you bolt it up tight it will act like a gasket. the final tighten flattens and shapes it to a perfect fit under the mounting pad. gives you a more perfect seal than the sealant alone

How are you planning to mount the engine ????, cant see from the pics of your boat how it will fit onto the transom, unless of course you have removed the bathing platform, if the platform is still on are you making a big bracket.
Give me your email address and i will send you some pics i have just found of your boat being lifted onto the trailer

I will be fitting it to the diving board engine mount, the boats instruction manual says you can fit upto 6stone from this with out modifications and once the outboard is fitted and locked into possition it can be driven via your cabin, be it slowly
