I've told people about that film many times over the years, no-one else had heard of it and were pretty disbelieving, 4foot tuna on a bamboo pole with no reel and a bare hook! I'd had started to think I'd just imagined it

Mark, I watched this with my old man quite a few years ago. Didnt think the film of it still existed.

Excellent, but sad thing is that probably wouldn't happen now due to over fishing. If they came across a school that big now, which is unlikely, they would just whip a coral net around it and scoop the lot.

I watched a documentry not long ago about tuna fisherman and that's exactly what they do, wrap a huge net around the school and tow it back to port with the fish in it (swimming around like in a giant pen) . I think it was in australia , divers had to go down to cut sharks free from the netting and repair where they had bitten through the nets , once back to port they leave the tuna in the nets just off the port and get them as they need them so they are always fresh.

Yes thats what I was meaning. There doesn't seem to be any thought of allowing some to escape to breed. No wonder theres hardly any fish left. I'm afarid commercial fishermen are concerned about one thing, their wallet.
