Seems winter has well and truly set in...

So...what are the Boatys out there doing in preparation for the next season?

There was talk of trying new things earlier this year...I fancied livebaiting - didn't do it. I also fancied fishing light - didn't do it...although the super thin boat rod came pretty close to it

Did try anchoring up...and this produced fish after a couple of fruitless hours so THAT worked

Tried Pink Pirks ...caught me a PB Cod and won first prize so THAT definitely worked

Anyone try anything slightly different to the norm' this year?
    Ooh a new vid!

Finished adding all the wrecks on my list into the GPS last month, need to visit them and tick or cross them off if no longer there.

I want to try fishing just off the piers for plaice in the summer months, tried last year but only once and never caught that many.

As for new things going to try close in with plugs and lures along the Marsden and souter area in the hope of the odd bass.

Becuae not had the boat long, have loads of "points of interest" to try fishing over/in this year.

Also the big one is trying up St Marrys for the pollack at fast drift.

Years target for 2009 15lb plus cod, 20lb plus ling and 10lb plus pollack as well as a bass of any size and a catfish 4lb plus.

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

Me and Micky said we were going to go off for a day without bait and lure fish only, we did try lure fishing with shads etc on odd days off but after i had lost mine I reverted back to a baited flowing trace or baited hokkai's etc, we also tried anchoring once but got nowt! It always seems that I always revert to what I am used to and the methods I know that work and catch fish rather than the new fangle shads and lures. I think a lot of it is the same as all fishing, having conviction and confidence in the methods you are using.

With the new faster boat hopefully this year we will veture further afield and try our hand at wreck fishing this year rather than rough ground all the time and maybe try the shads! The pictures of the yet to be named new boat will be up soon, we are delivering Nefin to her new owner in Hull on sunday morning.
I thought Normans article on wreck fishing was a great read but I don't know if I would be able to resist the temptation of not dropping down on the first drift as he reccomends! Its a whole new season and I can't wait, hopefully the northerlies will not feature as much this summer! I Love the seasons, as winter ends the shore fishing tails off then its time to sort the boat out and go trout fishing, then boat fishing as the trout fishing tails off followed by shore fishing again! Great! Its just that work thing that seems to get in the way!

My winter tricks are going to be finish putting the engine back together ( nearly done ), putting the leg back together and putting them back in the boat.

Finish replacing the rest of the wiring and putting the interior back together, fitting the new gauges which have just arrived from the states

Getting the fibre glass ready for re gel coating and anti fouling...all in preparations of sea trials...which will hopefully be more succesfull than her first sea trials when she wanted to be a submarine.

Derring Do is done the noo

You will see us out and about, and possibly on the plane (boat style) as soon as she's ready young man. You're more than welcome to come down on a brassic evening after a hard days work to don the spare boiler suit and give me someone to talk to while The Skipper's grafting. I can't even be arsed shouting to him down the hole when the angle grinders going, he's soo rude.

Really though, The Panzer is a handful but worth every bit of effort, pain, penny and something else beginning with a P would be good. She's been out 3 times I believe since we got her home and I was unconscious for 2 of the trips and asleep for most of the 3rd. Weather, tides, family business, hydraulics, small fires around important areas to name but a few have conspired to keep us tied up. I'm a bit of a stressed out worrit at the moment but everynight when I close my eyes I dream of the Panzer and what she will be and has already been and it chases all the worry away. A few fish would be a bonus.

Check the RQ small print - "all vessels not normally residing on top of the water will be charged at Ł2000 per metre below therewith in perpetuity. Periscopes do not count as none below water structures, Any owners wearing a white wooly polo neck jumper will be reported to the home guard and forced to hand over their ration books. We welcome all submariners to the RQ, just don't park yer halftrack in the spots designated for our more floaty patrons. Seig Heil RQ"
