  • Help picking aNew rod

Anyone advise on a half decent boat rod with just getting into going out on the boats I just opted for low end range ron thompson symmetry rod and was given a lineaeffe miami to get the feel of it. After getting the bug looking to invest in a better bit of kit . ( I know opinions are going to differ but I appreciate the feedback and knowledge from anyone who can help ).Cheers :🎣

It depends on your type of fishing. In general a shimano TLD would be my reel of choice. I have a couple of 15's. I also have some penn fathom 15s I use for lighter work. In terms of rods I have now gone for nothing over 20lb class. I find anything over this is over gunned for the general stamp of fish round our coast line. I have a Conoflex 20lb IGFA rod. It's great with braid and has a nice sensitive tip that allows fish to fight but with enough back bone to get the bigger fish up. My biggest this season is 11lb 6oz. I also have a few lighter rods for pollack and mackerel fishing. I have had Greys Boat and Shakespeare ugly sticks in the past and found them decent rods but the conoflex blank quality far outstrips them! Just my preference though. Lot of lads still using heavier rods, especially on the wrecks. And again there will be lads using far more advance gear than my set up!!
