Is collapsing after the floods last weekend I read about it in the Journal , big cracks and holes appeared in the ........ what the hell is it called ? The bit that you walk along next to where the boats are moored.
Anyway , it's going to cost tens of thousands of pounds to put it right .
I've had my boat out of the marina and at home the last two weeks, so she was on my drive when all the flooding was happening (she needed a good clean) but with this good weather promised I thought I'd better get her back on standby , took her down at high tide tonight to the public slip , had a couple of crew with me which was just as well cos when I got there , there was a huge tree trunk about 30" thick and a good 12ft long slap bang in the middle of the slip , much huffing and puffing and heaving an hoing later it was moved a couple of feet to one side , enough to launch my boat.
Straightforward launch and set off round to the marina , on my way round I noticed there were very few boats moored up compared to when I took her out the other week , and that there was an aweful lot of tree trunks and other flotsam about. I slowly plodded round to my berth, always on the lookout for the odd sycamore or oak trunk on the way round. Got there to find someone had nicked one of my mooring ropes and tied her up temporarily with some spare rope and set off back to the slip .
Going out of the gate to the ramp I noticed a paper fastened to the gate ..
NAVIGATION HAZARD, it said..... it went on something like ....... Due to the recent weather conditions it is not advisable to head up river (where I had just came from ) when leaving the marina due to the large number of sunk boats and yachts in the river , damage may be caused to the sunk boats or your own boat should you do so. (words to that effect)
No wonder there weren't many boats moored up , fotunately it was a big tide tonight and I didn't see or hit anything on the way round there , I'll have to go have a look at low water and see where they are .
"damage the sunk boats" I'd think they are pretty well damaged already , I don't know what affect the floods had on the marina berths if any , but I'm glad my boat was at home whilst all that was going on.
We'll have to be careful at sea this weekend I guess , there's probably all kinds of crap floating about out there too.
