having missed oot the day, and tinkering with tides, (Canute was me granda you know) was wondering about doing ti backwards, slip out 11pm midnight ish, and have a bash over the wrecks/ground through the night.

anyone ever done an all nighter offshore?? worth a try??, might be interesting to see if it throws anything different up

Canny thought Mark ,it has to be worth a shot ,I expect fishing with bait would do the damage during the dark hours and then back to whatever during daylight.

You could be right about the bait Steve, I would reckon it would be worth a try with some glowsticks and also charge some daylights up with the flash off your camera too

mark, I think thats a great Idea, especially over the next two or three weeks cos it never really gets dark (if it`s a clear sky) this time of year so you always have some light at least .................

my turn to spend the week sitting next to me ma and a machine that goes ping in Doncaster royal infirmary, this week, and probably the weekend as well, but the week after maybe, could be midweek or weekend, whatever suits really

the great thing about the old girl for such a trip is she's big!, acres of deck space (well she is 45' long!) and bags of room inside and below for any sleepy people!

Makes you wonder what night type fish you could catch...would you maybe catch some of the bigger specimens that feel safer in the black of night? (how dark is it at 190ft during the day?) or maybe catch species hitherto not seen during the day...the mind boggles...

first week of july is good for us tide wise - but no moon so will be a bit dark!

full moon is 18th july

wonder if that would make a huge difference?? be interesting to do it twice and compare what difference the moon makes

so my thoughts were that we'd get her out of st petes in the late afternoon/early evening, then head off down river and maybe get to sea at duskish, so there might be a few mackeral still about, a little light supper and a hand of bridge or 2, port and cigars then maybe try a bit of that fishing malarkey

either straight out to the wrecks or maybe try the ground at st mary's for a bit first, anchor up maybe?? then do the wrecks

I'm happy to go with whatever 'route' folks might think will be best.

might try get the eberspacher working first, in case anyone (me!) needs to come in for a warm.

I suppose one big advantage is that she's big enough so we shouldn't be tripping over each other in the dark

I've only got 3 gas lifejackets, might be 4 actually, but Ell will probably be wearing 3 of them (inside out backwards and upside down!)

but got loads of mae wests, debating wether to impose a lifejacket on deck in the dark hours rule, when we are underway at the very least. if we are stopped then not so bad. done an MOB in the dark drill once and don't want to do it again!

so if any volunteers have their own, bring it along!

my guess is there will be less fish about but a lot more big ones. I also reckon there's good conger potential in the dark, definately an increased catfish likelihood as well. who knows what else could turn up

baited pirks with a big glow stick, what could resist!

just another thought that occured, I wonder if Squid could be the killer bait at night offshore. they are know for the nocturnal habits, but I wonder how common squid are up here compared to down south and wether that might make a difference.
