Just filleted todays catch...LOL...4 lowly Macky, best to a 1lb I reckon...

I thought I'd try doing it "properly"...stuck on the Best of Pink Floyd (couldn't play the Eagles - wouldn't have felt right somehow)

...anyway - it wasn't actually that hard, much to my surprise, as long as you have a geet geet sharp knife it seems pretty easy...took me ages like...I reckon I could prob get through the whole of Tubular Bells 1 and 2 with a box full of Cod and Ling

...mind I don't think I'm ready for the Boats catch just yet (although maybe Norman will let me try on a smally Cod one time )
    Ooh a new vid!

Mackerel are a doddle to fillet , but the first cod I tried didn't know where to start , but with the help of Mr Charltons video I can fillet a whole cod and still have 7 fingers left
Actually it's a brilliant video for anyone who wants to learn how to do it , it was a great help to me , I've filleted trout for years but they definitely aint cod .

mackeral are indeed a doddle. I lop there heads off at the gills, which also bleeds em and makes em keep longer and taste better, then gut them, then knife flat against the tail and whip it straight down the back bone, turn it over and repeat, 2 cuts - 2 fillets for the smoker!

Now I know Macky are a doddle - but I wanted to try the surgical approach to filletting...not the bait cutter style (as H Fearnley W calls it)

I reckon I'm ready for a small Cod

and if you want to take it a step further chop out the ribs by running the knife straight down the back of them, then theres that row of bones down the middle of the fillets, run the knife down either side of them but not through the skin, then pull that row of bones out, walla boned fillets.
Happy to help, Keen to learn!
